JKBOSE Implementation of the curriculum and textbooks published/ prescribed by JKBOSE from ensuring Academic Session 2024-25 for classes 1st to 12th:- Pursuant to the Jammu ond Kashmir Board of School Education Act, 1975 (XXVII of 1975) dated: 27 August, 1975 read with amendments under Reorganization Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) dated 5thof October, 2020, S.CO. 3466 (E), the JKBOSE has been established for the State/UT to advise the Government on matter of policy relating to Pre-primary Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Higher Secondary Education and In respect of matters specified by or under the Act.

Whereas the section (10) of the said Act deals with powers and functions of the Board which mentions that; Subject to the provisions of this Act and also subject to the broad educational policies and such directions and Instructions as the Government may adopt and issue, from time to time, the Board shall have the following powers and functions
- to prescribe the courses of instructions, prepare curricula and detailed syllabi and also prescribe text books for the Pre-primary, elementary, secondary school and Higher Secondary (School graduation) school examinations and Elementary Teachers Training Course.
- Whereas SRO 123 dated:- 18th March, 2010 vide which J&K School Education Rules 2010 were notified, at Rule 11 (a) makes it mandatory for every school to follow the curriculum and the textbooks as may be prescribed for different classes by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education have a statutory force.
Whereas the State Affiliation Committee/ Recognition Committee in its meetings held on 7h August, 2013 and 18th May, 2023, has resolved that any deviation or non-compliance of the instructions or orders of the JKBOSE or Government of Jammu and Kashmir issued from time to time / non-adoption of JKBOSE prescribed text books and curricula by any academic institution shall warrant a disciplinary action, imposition of a penalty up to Rs.50,000/ or both and that it shall be reinforced for strict implementation.

Whereas the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education vide Notification No. F (PP-Publication) B/22, dated 26.08.2022 impressed upon all the affiliated private schools of the UTS of J&K and Ladakh to ensure that the text books published by the JKBOSE are implemented/prescribed, in the first phase, for classes 6h to 8th from the Academic Session 2023-24 Whereas a writ petition WP(C) No.702/2023 was filed before the Hon ble High Court of J&K and Ladakh, by Private Schools United Front, challenging thereon the above Sold notification regarding the implementation of textbooks published by JKBOSE by all the private schools for Classes 6th to gth in the first phase, however, the same was dismissed by the Hon ble High Court, which in its order has observed thot the JKBOSE is well within its rights to make it mandatory for all the Private Schools to prescribe Textbooks published by JKBOSE.
As such, it is directed upon all the JKBOSE affiliated private schools of the UTs of J&K and Ladakh that they shall implement the curriculum and the textbooks prescribed/published by JKBOSE from ensuing Academic Session 2024-25 for classes 1st to 12th, No School shall force any parent/students to purchase books/materia other than those published and prescribed by JKBOSE. Non-adherence to the Orders/directions of JKBOSE or Government of J&K issued from time to time on this score by any affiliated academic Institution shall warrant a strict disciplinary action, imposition of a penalty or both.
Parents are also advised that in case any school forces them to purchase books other than those published by the JKBOSE, they should immediately contact/inform the JKBOSE authorities.
