Jammu to Conduct Second Civil Defense Drill “Operation Shield” on May 31 Here’s What You Need to Know: In a proactive move to strengthen public safety and disaster preparedness, the District Administration Jammu is all set to conduct the second edition of the Civil Defense exercise, “Operation Shield,” on Saturday, 31st May 2025, from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM.
This 15-minute mock blackout drill aims to simulate a crisis situation where electricity and illumination sources are unavailable, helping both citizens and emergency services practice their roles in a coordinated response.
What Is Operation Shield All About?
The exercise is part of a broader safety initiative to:
- Raise awareness about emergency protocols in case of power failures or disasters.
- Test the readiness of the administration and the general public.
- Build a more resilient and alert community in Jammu.
What You Need to Do During the Drill
Everyone is requested to participate sincerely and follow these simple steps during the blackout drill:
Time to Act: As soon as you hear the siren at 8:00 PM,
Switch off all lights—this includes main lights, inverters, solar lights, torches, mobile flashlights, and even vehicle headlights.
Draw your curtains to block out any remaining light.
Pause your activities—halt business operations, vehicular movement, and daily chores for just 15 minutes.
Inform your family, especially the elderly and children, so they don’t get alarmed.
Stay calm—this is only a mock drill, not a real emergency.
Emergency and critical services will continue to operate as usual.
