Government of Jammu and Kashmir Approves Creation of 178 New Posts for High Court of J&K and Ladakh: Jammu/Srinagar, March 10, 2025 – In a significant move to enhance judicial efficiency, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has sanctioned the creation of 178 new posts across various categories for the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This decision was approved in Council of Ministers Decision No. 027/03/2025, dated February 24, 2025, and formalized through Government Order No. 2866-JK(LD) of 2025, issued on March 10, 2025.
Newly Created Posts and Pay Levels
The sanctioned posts cover multiple roles, from registrars and stenographers to orderlies and drivers, to improve the functioning of the judiciary. The detailed distribution of posts is as follows:

Conditions for Implementation
The creation of these posts is subject to the following conditions:
- Recruitment Rules Compliance – The posts must align with existing recruitment rules governing judicial services.
- Amendment of Recruitment Rules – The Hon’ble High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will amend the relevant recruitment rules to accommodate the new positions.
- Class-IV Inclusion in MTS – As per S.O. No. 133 (March 29, 2022) and S.O. No. 151 (April 4, 2022), all Class-IV posts (except sanitation workers) will be included in the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) category.

The approval of these 178 posts reflects the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to enhancing judicial infrastructure and ensuring swift justice delivery. With the increasing case burden, these additional positions will help streamline court proceedings and administrative functions.
The Finance Department has conveyed its concurrence via U.O. No. FD-Code/24/2025-02-129, dated January 27, 2025. The official government order has been communicated to all relevant authorities, including the High Court Registry, General Administration Department, and Ministry of Home Affairs.
